Artist Interpretation  -

The image that came from the Lord of the young girl, bow in hand, aiming her arrow toward the sky, became even more meaningful when a rainbow appeared behind her, following the line of the archer’s bow. A vision and a clear whisper that came as a call to engage in the spiritual battle and a reminder that God is with us when we do. Our strength and shield, He will never leave us or forsake us, so it’s time to “pick up your bow.” In the story of Esther, a decree was sent out by the king at the request of Haman, to destroy the Jews. When the plot was uncovered by Mordecai, Esther gathered her courage to go before the king to make the scheme known and to plead on behalf of her people. She could have chosen to walk away and to not engage in the battle. Instead, she prayed and fasted and then went boldly before the king with her request. The king granted her request and a new edict was sent out, affording the Jews the opportunity to fight back. They weren’t handed a sure victory - they had to fight for it, but their joy and hope was found in the fact that they had been given the opportunity to fight. The very day the “enemies of the Jews hoped to gain mastery over them, the reverse occurred,” and their lives were spared. We’ve been given that very same opportunity to go before our King with our requests, and to fight the spiritual battle raging for the soul of our nation. We can choose to walk away or we can pick up our bow and engage in the battle we were meant to be a part of. Fighting with prayer, with the light of Christ, with the Gospel message, with love. And with a confidence in knowing that as we battle, we are covered by His great bow - His faithfulness is our shield. The enemy loses when we engage in the battle and our hope is found in the rainbow that shines bright in the sky, a reminder of the promises of God and of the sure victory to come.

“He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.” - Psalm 91:4-6
